Don’t Miss
As Mozart’s home city, Salzburg’s classical music shows are regular and popular; to save some euros try an amateur production. A cable car ride up Untersberg, Salzburg’s tallest mountain, will reveal some incredible Alpine views.
Retail Therapy
Visit the Grünmarkt in front of the Kollengienkirche for sweets, cheeses, breads and pastries to take home, or just eat them there and then. Walk the famous Getreidegasse but take your camera for the unique iron signs adorning every store façade on the narrow shopping street.
Eat and Drink
Enjoy a Mozartkugel, a dark chocolate-coated treat with a nougat and marzipan inside. The most original and best are found in the Konditorei Fürst in Alter Markt Square. While you’re there enjoy a few beers, they’re served in litre steins.
Hidden Gem
Explore the secret passageways, rooms and mysterious dungeons in the depths of the Hohensalzburg Fortress. Areas not usually open to tourists can be explored on special request; but just don’t get left behind in the torture chamber.
Day Trip
The Sound of Music tour will take you to the Nonnberg Convent, the Residenzplatz, St.Gilgen, Lake Wolfgang and the Mirabell Palace Gardens near the train station. Here you can enjoy singing Do-Re-Mi to your heart’s content on the Alpine hillside.
