While you're there
Zürich, the largest city of Switzerland
Zürich is a major financial centre and one of the most preferred Swiss destinations. In 2012, it was voted as the best city to live in Europe. It is an elegant metropolis on the lake bearing its name, with views over the snow-covered Alps, home to over 50 museums, 100 galleries, top hotels, shops and restaurants. Obviously it has to be Zürich! With its excellent public transport connections, this prime Swiss destination is ideal for excursions to the rest of the country. 5 days there, and you will get to know all about Zürich and neighbouring towns.
If you are asking yourself where to get a good view of the Zürich skyline, the answer is Grossmünster, the famous tall twin towers. The most notable landmarks of the city are the Fraumünster church decorated by Marc Chagall; the beautiful spires of Saint Peters Church and its monumental clock – Europe’s largest;
At the other side of Lake Zürich, Rapperswill, a small medieval town awaits you with an invitation to visit the Rose Gardens, the Castle, the deer park on the Lindenhof and Switzerland’s largest wooden bridge. Get to know where the famous Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate are made, by stopping over in Kilchberg, on your way back.
There is an excursion which is not to be missed! Thanks to the world’s steepest cogwheel railway, you will reach the top of Mount Pilatus for a splendid panorama view of the surrounding mountains and lakes, before getting back by cable car.
In cosmopolitan Zurich, you can munch on everything. Go to the famous Confiserie Sprüngli to have a taste of their chocolate inventions before going to the Niederdorf area where you can taste the trademark Züri Gschnetzlets dish veal in cream and mushroom sauce) and rosti (grated, fried potatoes). The local wines are Riesling, white Rauschling and light red Clevner.
Go to the Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most exclusive shopping avenues. The old town is also a very attractive shopping area with fashion, jewellery and antiques shops as well as the smaller and more traditional boutiques. Head to Schipfe to find craftsmen who sell their handmade products along the river. Join locals in a spot of ‘lädele’ the pasttime of shopping and strolling. Explore the multicultural Langstrasse quarter where young Swiss designers have set up shop.

- "Too little, too expensive" Federico Ignacio j. 30/01/2014
The train is about right, but the price is not THAT good. You can always take a S-Bahn and get there for half the price and the same comfort and convenience (and double the time, of course)
- "Excellent choice of travel " Shalini b. 27/01/2014
the journey from Zurich to Salzburg in the second class compartment was really comfortable with plenty of luggage space and the train arrived on time and the journey had spectacular views.
- "First time journey " John w. 12/01/2014
Felt very comfortable on this high speed train, it was comfortable and relaxing although the seat position wasnt great to look out the window which was a shame so maybe if this is important to you check it out next time before travelling. I also visite the shop for a bottle of water which was around 3 euros but the waitress serving was very nice and friendly. Overall a good experience.
- "Bag stolen in Paris Eurostar" Elango r. 11/01/2014

Bought tickets during a sale, so it is super worth it. Both train stations are in the city center and convenient, and train was steady during the ride.

Everything is went on well, although we missed the train at Paris because of train delay at Caen, they accepted us to board in next immediate train.

The price (CHF 482) seemed a bit high the seats we were given (at the back of the train, with very small table and apparently usually reserved for Customs staff)
